The world’s largest private ship, the Azam, has been successfully launched.
Built by German company Leshun Yachts, the 590-foot-long vessel cost a whopping ¡ê400 million to build.
Two gas turbines and two diesel engines provide up to 94,000 horsepower, allowing it to travel at speeds of more than 30 knots per hour.
On its debut, Azam beat Eclipse, a 544-foot yacht owned by Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, to become the world’s largest private yacht.
During the three-day test run, the Azam reportedly even reached a speed of 31.5 knots.
This makes it not only the largest yacht in the world, but also arguably the fastest mega-yacht.
It is unusual for such a giant yacht to reach such high speeds.
Azam’s elegant streamline also sets it apart from other yachts over 150 metres long.
The mystery buyer of the Azam asked the designer Mubarak Saad to build a yacht that was innovative, permanent and capable of navigating shallow waters.
The designer led the team to complete the task successfully.
The Azam will be delivered this year.
