The Rioja region has renamed this class of wines to Generic wines of origin since 2017.
Crian: Vintage wine.
This grade requires at least two years of aging, including at least six months in oak barrels, and up to 12 months for wines from Navarra, Rioja and Ribera del Duero;
White and rose wines require at least 18 months of aging, including at least 6 months of aging in oak barrels.
Reserva: to reserve wine.
This grade requires at least 3 years of aging, including at least 12 months of aging in oak barrels, before reaching the market;
White and rose wines need to be aged for at least 2 years, including at least 6 months in oak barrels.
In the case of Gran Reserva.
This grade of red wine must be aged for at least five years, including 18 months in oak barrels, compared with 24 months for Navarra, Rioja and Duero River reds;
White and rose wines should be aged for at least 4 years, including at least 6 months in oak barrels.
