Since 2012, Etihad Airways has offered live bidding for upgrades, especially on its A380 routes between ABU Dhabi and New York, London, Paris and Sydney.
This innovative upgrade program makes it easier for travelers to book premium cabins.
Passengers can use their respective terminals to enter the auction system, the auction notice will be displayed on the terminal screen in real time, and two or more passengers are allowed to participate in the auction at the same time.
The system will also send the latest results to travelers via email and text message.
Jamal Al Awadhi, Head of Passenger Experience at Etihad Airways Commercial, said: “This live auction is a first for the UAE region and gives travellers looking for premium class options the freedom to control their travel experience at a price point.”
“The auction system allows travelers to bid against each other, and this new gamified format makes the trip fun before it even starts.
Our mobile responsive website makes it easy for travelers to participate in the auction while on the move.”
Seven days before your flight, you will be invited to bid for a single class upgrade via email, or you can bid on etihad.com.
Bidding takes place 24 hours to 6 hours before the flight.
Successful bidders will be notified as soon as the auction closes.
Bidding passengers are still advised to check in at least 48 hours before departure, which will be automatically upgraded.
If you accept the upgrade offer, a new boarding pass will be automatically provided on Etihad’s mobile App and can be collected at the check-in counter.
In the future, Etihad will enhance this service by allowing frequent-flier program members to use their bonus miles to participate in the upgrade auction.
