The company’s revolutionary vision was demonstrated by the G650 business jet, which is now almost synonymous with the company.
It has set a new standard in the field of business aircraft, becoming the most spacious cabin area, the most noble, cruise speed of the business jet.
So?
Gulfstream has been preparing for the G650 since 2005 and unveiled it at a grand launch ceremony on March 13, 2008.
Gulfstream invested in the G650 long before the first computer graphics were available.
The company has invested in a new Research and Development center (RDC), which includes two office buildings housing more than 700 engineers and an 80,000-square-foot (7,432 square meter) laboratory building for advanced research in areas such as acoustics, composites and cabin technology.
In addition, Gulfstream operates a fly-by-wire flight and Advanced Cockpit program consisting of multiple laboratory and flight test aircraft.
Finally, Gulfstream has invested in a large new production facility that will use advanced manufacturing techniques to bring each G650 aircraft to the highest standards.
The effort paid off: The G650 is the product of advanced technology research in its category.
The G650 can carry eight passengers and a crew of four and can fly 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 km) non-stop.
That means it can fly non-stop from Dubai to New York, or London to Buenos Aires.
It’s powered by a high-thrust Rolls-Royce BR725 engine that can fly short distances at Mach 0.925, making the G650 a near-sonic flight, the longest in a business jet that can fly at high speeds. No traditional business jet can get you that close to the speed of sound.
